Help make room for the way North Salem uses its library
Work is underway to reopen the building. Build The Next Chapter carries the project further, helping fund the shelving, furniture, lighting, technology, and study space that make the library easier to use every day.
A library with more room for the people who use it every day.
The library has always been part of daily life in North Salem.
On a typical day, the library may host storytime, support a student after school, help someone find a book, and give a neighbor a place to work or ask a question.
The building needs to support that use better than it does today.
Build The Next Chapter will help finish the larger interior work so the library has more room to gather, better places to work and study, and more flexibility for programs and everyday use.
One of the clearest parts of this project is flexible shelving.
Right now, the main room has limits. When shelves cannot move, the room cannot shift easily for larger programs, author talks, workshops, meetings, or community gatherings.
Flexible shelving keeps books at the heart of the library while giving the room more ways to work for people.
That is the heart of Build The Next Chapter: making room for the community.
Flexible shelving helps the same room serve more people in more ways.
Build The Next Chapter will help move the library from reopening toward completion.
Shelving that can move, so the main room can open up for programs and events.
Tables, chairs, and seating that support reading, studying, working, and daily use.
Lighting that makes the library brighter and easier to use.
Tools for programs, meetings, presentations, and community use.
Better options for focused work, studying, and small-group needs.
Areas that better serve children, teens, adults, families, and community groups.
More than $120,000 raised toward the $575,000 goal.
Early support has come from trustees, friends of the library, local businesses, and neighbors who believe that
Ruth Keeler Library matters.
The campaign was introduced to the community at Cooks for Books, where the response was warm, generous,
and very North Salem.
Now we are asking more people to take part.
Every gift, introduction, and conversation helps move the project forward.
