 primacy-a-thriller

Tens of thousands of monkeys and apes suffer in animal testing labs. If just one of them could speak, what might it say and whose interests would it threaten? Researcher Liane Vinson thinks she can handle her promotion to the primate lab at Pentalon… But when Liane discovers that one of her favorite apes, a young bonobo called Bea, has shockingly developed the ability to speak, all her doubts awaken…

There will be a book signing and refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library.

2011 Library Annual Appeal

We need to raise one-quarter of our operating budget. We hope you can respond generously to this letter from the Library Board President, Tim Purdy.

Dear Patrons,

Good fundraising letters are hard to find; they are even harder to write! With that said, I will make this appeal brief.

Our supporters were extremely generous this year and enabled us to close a deficit of almost $30,000. For this, we are extremely thankful.

We are starting 2012 with a big budget deficit, plus we need an additional $20,000 for a generator. Our town officials are being as generous as possible, but with the new 2% budget cap, there is no way they can fully fund our library and cover a generator. A generator is needed not only because the library has been a "center" for residents without power, but also because the town's communication system is housed in our utility room!

During our last two extended power outages, our staff did an excellent job at keeping the building open. We had no power, no Internet services or head, and three feet of water in the basement, but people needed and wanted a place to spend a few quiet hours. They also wanted books for candle-light reading.

As the end of the year approaches, we hope that your priorities will include your library. If possible we ask that you consider moving to an increased level of support.

Thank you for your consideration of this request.

 Sincerely,
Tim Purdy
President
